In August, the transportation economy continued to operate steadily, with major physical indicators such as freight volume, port cargo throughput, and cross regional personnel flow all achieving growth. August Building Materials Industry Prosperity Index
2024-09-09 13:15:45
In August 2024, the prosperity index of the building materials industry was 101.4 points, up 5.1 points month on month from July, 2.0 points higher than the same month last year, exceeding the critical point and returning to the prosperous range. The industry's economic operation has slightly recovered from the low point.

Monthly Prosperity Index of Building Materials Industry

On the supply side, in August, the price index of the building materials industry was below the critical point and the production index was above the critical point. Among them, the price index of the building materials industry was 99.2 points, a decrease of 0.6 points from the previous month; The production index of the building materials industry was 102.2 points, up 5.6 points from the previous month. Overall, the prices of building materials have fluctuated at a low level, and the production of building materials has accelerated compared to last month.

On the demand side, the building materials investment demand index, industrial consumption index, and international trade index are all above the critical point. Among them, the demand index for building materials investment was 101.4 points, up 6.4 points from last month, indicating a recovery in demand in the construction market; The industrial consumption index of building materials products was 101.7 points, up 1.8 points from last month, and the demand for related manufacturing industries in the upstream and downstream of the building materials industry chain remained stable; The international trade index of building materials was 100.8 points, up 2.9 points from last month, and the import and export trade of building materials slightly rebounded. Overall, the demand for building materials market in August has recovered compared to the previous month.

Analysis of MPI influencing factors and early warning

The production of building materials is accelerating. In August, with the weakening of climatic factors such as high temperatures and rainfall, the demand in the construction market rebounded, and the production of building materials accelerated compared to July. The production indices of 9 sub industries, including cement, concrete and cement products, wall materials, lime gypsum, thermal insulation materials, building stone, building technology glass, building sanitary ceramics, and non-metallic industries, are in the prosperous range, an increase of 7 industries compared to last month. Enterprises expect a growth in market demand.

The product price has slightly decreased. In August, among the various sub industries of building materials, the prices of products in four industries, namely concrete and cement products, waterproof building materials, thermal insulation materials, and building stones, tentatively increased month on month, while other industries slightly decreased. The relationship between supply and demand in the building materials industry did not show significant improvement, and we still hope that the market will recover in the future.

There is a clear trend in the industry's operation, but there are still uncertain factors. Since August, the marginal repair trend of market supply and demand has continued. With the low recovery of the demand market, the delivery rate of key enterprises has slightly rebounded, and there is a clear upward trend in the production and operation of enterprises. Since the beginning of this year, there has been excessive precipitation, and the improvement of related infrastructure in some areas with severe flood disasters will create local demand. However, the prices of factors such as coal and oil and gas are still fluctuating at high levels, and market expectations in the construction sector are weak. The economic recovery of the building materials industry is still under pressure.

Note:

The Building Materials Industry Prosperity Index (MPI) mainly monitors the operating trends of the building materials industry and has strong predictive and warning functions. When MPI is higher than 100, it indicates that the operation of the building materials industry is in a prosperous range. When MPI is lower than 100, it indicates that the operation of the building materials industry is in a non prosperous range.

2. The Building Materials Industry Prosperity Index (MPI) evaluates the operational trends of the building materials industry from both the supply and demand sides. The supply side is divided into price index and production index, while the demand side is divided into investment demand index, industrial consumption index, and building materials international trade index based on the actual impact of the demand field on the building materials industry.

3. The price index of the building materials industry reflects the trend of changes in the ex factory prices of the building materials industry. The ex factory price does not include the costs incurred during the circulation of building materials, product profits, taxes, etc. The ex factory price is different from the market price, and their changes will affect each other with a time lag. There may be inconsistent trends in the changes during a certain period of time.

4. The index of industrial production of building materials reflects the changing trend of industrial production of building materials and does not include price changes.

5. Investment demand index, reflecting the changing trend of investment market demand related to building materials.

6. The industrial consumption index reflects the changing trend of industrial consumption demand related to building materials. Industrial consumption includes both the consumption between industries within the building materials industry and the consumption of building materials products by downstream industries.

7. The International Trade Index of Building Materials reflects the trend of international trade in building materials, mainly composed of export indices of industries such as building sanitary ceramics, building technical glass, building stone, glass fiber and composite materials, non-metallic minerals, etc.
